Private George Craig 5352, 17th Battalion Reinforcements, Australian Imperial Force.
George Craig was born in Scone on 12th September 1887; he was the eldest son of James Christie, a tailor, and his wife Jane MacPherson. George had four sisters and one brother. He was educated at Scone Public School and upon leaving, served an apprenticeship as a draper in Perth. George emigrated to Brisbane, Australia and found employment working in a Commercial House. He volunteered for military service on 15th November 1915, aged 28 years and 2 months. He was posted to France and disembarked at Marseilles on 8th June 1916. Private George Craig was reported missing on the 8th August 1916, during the Battle of Pozieres. He was 29 years old. He was awarded the Victory and British War medals.
