Private David Louden Murray 202896, 4th Battalion Royal Scots Fusiliers (previously Royal Engineers)

David Louden Murray was born in Scone on 1st December 1882.  His parents, James and Mary, had six children.  All the children were born in the family home at Abbey Road, Scone.  James Murray ran a plumber’s business in Scone.  David and his siblings attended Scone Public School.  When David enlisted with the Royal Engineers at Dundee in November 1915 he was already married to Agnes Watt Muir Smith.  Shortly after enlisting, he was mobilised and transferred to the Royal Scots Fusiliers.  In February 1917 he was sent to Palestine with his battalion.  Private David Louden Murray was reported missing and presumed to have been killed on 19th April 1917, the final day of the Battle of Gaza.  He was 34 years of age.  David is remembered on the Jerusalem Memorial.  He was awarded the Victory and British War medals.
