Sergeant James Voy Robertson M.M. 3/4033, 3rd Battalion The Black Watch
James Voy Robertson was born at Pomarium St, Perth, on 4th February 1884 to Ebenezer and Janet Robertson. He married Elizabeth Robertson in July 1906 and they had 4 children. James was a regular soldier and served in the South African War, where he was awarded the Queen’s Medal with Clasp. On the outbreak of WW1, he was working as a forester on the Scone Estate. He re-enlisted into the Black Watch and was sent to France, where he was awarded the Military Medal for “Gallantry in Action”. He was later transferred to Ireland. Sergeant James Voy Robertson drowned on 10th October 1918. Whilst proceeding home on leave aboard the SS Leinster, the ship was torpedoed by the German submarine UB-123 and sunk in the Irish Channel. He was 37 years old. James was awarded the Victory and British War medals.
