Private Peter Thomson M.M. 13971, 1/5th Battalion Prince of Wales’s Own West Yorkshire Regiment
Peter Thomson was born on 8th December 1878 in Scone, to William and Jane Thomson. His father was a grocer. Peter was educated at Scone Public School. On leaving education he worked as a Forrester on the Scone Estates. At the start of WW1, Peter was living and working in Yorkshire. He enlisted as a private in the Prince of Wales’s Own Yorkshire Regiment in 1914. It is recorded that he served in South African War, however he soon saw action on the Western Front. Peter was awarded the Military Medal for “Gallantry in the Field” in 1917. Private Peter Thomson was killed on 25th April 1918 during the Battle of Kemmel Ridge, however his body was never recovered. He was 38 years old. He was awarded the Star, Victory and British War medals.
